The Prime Alternatives FAQ Section

What is a domain?
A domain is like a street address, it simply gives an identity to your website, or allows you personalized email addresses, which relates to your company, family, organization.

Why does my business need a web site?
Your web site can:

  • increase your ability to communicate with your customers
  • deepen customer/brand loyalty
  • add to your credibility and value to your customers
  • provide information and promote sales 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • level the playing field between your business and larger competitors

Your customers - and potential customers - are using the web to buy products, obtain information, and establish relationships with businesses. Shouldn't they be coming to you instead of your competitors?

What are the costs I need to consider?
There are basically four cost elements to consider in owning and operating a web site.

First, you'll need to register your URL, more commonly referred to as your web address.

The second cost you need to consider is the cost to design and build your web site. The price you pay will depend on the size and complexity of your site as well as which web site developer you choose. Prime Alternatives' proprietary engineering process allows us to design and build your site with the look you want and the features you need.

Paying for the hosting of your site is the next cost you need to consider. Every site must have a host that connects it to the internet. The hosting fee is dependent on the features and size of your site.

How long will it take to get my web site?
For the site consultation, plan on an initial 30 minute conversation so that we can fully understand your needs and objectives and shape the correct information architecture for your site.

For the development stage, once you've sent us the needed information and materials you can expect to see a draft of your web site within a few weeks.

Can I change the content of my web site?
Yes! We will make minor changes for the site free of cost for the for the first three month. However major changes can be made for which you pay.

Can I upgrade my web site package as my business grows?

Does the design include content development?
No we do not develop content for our clients.

What is a search engine ?
A directory of Internet content. If you're looking for specific information on the WWW, a search engine can list Web sites at which you'll likely find that information. Popular search engines include Excite, Snap, Yahoo, and Infoseek.

Do you register my domain to search engines ?
Yes! All packages that we offer include charges for registering your domain to popular search engines.

How many search engines can you register my site with?
AltaVista - InfoSeek/Go Network - HotBot - AOL Search - DirectHit - Excite - Google - Goto.com - Lycos - Magellan - MSN - Netscape - Open Directory - Snap - WebCrawler - What-U-Seek - Yahoo Web Pages (Inktomi) - Yahoo Web Sites

But some are search engines and some are Directories...this is a HUGE difference, for instance, YaHoo is a directory and NOT a search engine, but has a search engine back engine...

Do you guarantee positioning? I mean, placing my site on the top ten position.
There is no way to guarantee any positioning, with all the changes that search engines goes through, such as the most recent with movement to directory structures, No one can guarantee this. When you have no control over the algorithms a search engine uses/changes to or the number of sites in your industry being developed, a guarantee is impossible. If anyone does make a guarantee, I would be wary. I can give you references and show you position reports of our existing customers.

How long does it take you to have my site registered?
Registered and indexed by search engines are 2 different things. Search engines such as Lycos and Excite updated there databases in the Spring of 2000 for the first time since November and October of 1999, although they have been indexing sites. This is critical to understand. Your site may get indexed by a spider, but it also has to get updated into the Live Database. But to answer your question, you should plan on about 5-7 months to get a good feel of how you are positioned. And you should count on re-submitting and/or adjusting your pages for algorithm changes or other changes such as company policy at least 3 times a year.
